* Mini-Classes

“The Politics of Homelessness”
Dr. Richard Leitch, Political Science      Beck Hall
In this session, we will generate answers to two fundamental questions:  who is homeless, and why?  We will then consider how homelessness in the US is paradoxical.
“The Economic Impact of Sports”
Dr. Jeff Owen, Economics and Management     Beck Hall
 This class examines the effect the sports teams, stadiums, and events on local economies. Why are economists skeptical of the projections on jobs and local income that come from economic impact studies? What are the implications for public funding of stadiums?
“Evolution of Sexy”
Dr. Joel L. Carlin, Biology and Environmental Sciences     Beck Hall
 Are you sexy? The answer lies in personal taste, psychology, and (yes) evolution. How have animals (and plants) responded to the pressure of finding the best mate? What did Darwin think about sexiness, and what did he get wrong? Learn what t-shirts, ancient sculptures, and exotic dancing can tell us about evolution and what makes us human.
